Cathy Cooper

Cathy brings over three decades of exceptional legal expertise and entrepreneurial leadership to her practice, combining knowledge of family law, corporate law, and business innovation to guide clients through complex personal and financial transitions. Since earning her J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1992, Ms. Cooper has established herself as a strategic attorney, accomplished business leader, and compassionate advocate who delivers tailored solutions with precision and empathy.

Ms. Cooper handles all aspects of family law, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, property division, and the preparation of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Her keen negotiation abilities and proven courtroom skills ensure clients receive strategic, results-driven representation. Ms. Cooper is known for making complex legal matters understandable, empowering clients to move forward through difficult family transitions with clarity and confidence.

Her entrepreneurial background and corporate law experience provide a distinct advantage, particularly in high-asset divorces and cases involving business interests. As founder and Chief Legal Counsel of WaistLite™ since 2021, Ms. Cooper developed and launched an innovative dietary supplement addressing alcohol-related weight management, with the company earning recognition as “the most innovative brand of 2024.” She managed every dimension of the business—intellectual property protection, FDA compliance, trademark strategy, direct-to-consumer sales, and cross-functional team leadership. This real-world experience in business operations and financial structures enables her to navigate complex asset valuations and business ownership disputes with exceptional skill.

Between 2009 and 2020, Ms. Cooper founded and led an e-commerce platform in the beauty industry, negotiating global distribution agreements and hundreds of professional contracts as Master Broker for a premier hair color brand in Australasia. Since 2024, she has advised C-suite executives on contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, technology licensing, and corporate governance across multiple for-profit and nonprofit organizations. This corporate acumen strengthens her ability to serve family law clients with professional practices or sophisticated financial portfolios.

Earlier in her career (1992–2008), Ms. Cooper represented clients across diverse practice areas including complex business litigation, employment law, criminal defense, and medical malpractice in Atlanta and New Orleans. She edited a comprehensive 700-page Sourcebook on labor and employment law and directed business development for the intellectual property division of an AmLaw 100 firm. Her published work has appeared in Business to Business, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta Magazine, and other publications.

Ms. Cooper earned her J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1992, where she served as Managing Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Review and externed for Judge Steven R. Plotkin. She is admitted to practice in Georgia and Louisiana. She holds a B.A. with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, where she edited for The Pennsylvania Review, produced for The Pennsylvania Players theatrical group, and competed on the equestrian team. A former officer of the Federal Bar Association in Atlanta, she remains active in the Georgia Bar Association’s Family Law Section.

Beyond her legal practice, Ms. Cooper has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service, chairing high-profile fundraisers including the Atlanta Opera Ball, serving as PR Chair for the Atlanta Junior League, and contributing as a board member for literacy and media organizations.

Ms. Cooper is married with three adult children. She is an avid dressage rider and German shepherd enthusiast.
