Cathy Cooper

Cathy Cooper is a seasoned family law attorney with more than three decades of experience guiding clients through complex, high-stakes personal and financial transitions.  Known for her steady demeanor, strategic insight, and fierce advocacy, Cathy often represents individuals in complex divorce and custody matters, with a particular strength in high-net-worth cases involving closely held businesses, executive compensation, and intricate asset structures.

Cathy’s experience in family law encompasses divorce, child custody, spousal support, equitable division of complex marital estates, and the negotiation and drafting of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.  She is a skilled negotiator and experienced litigator who approaches each case with a clear, results-oriented strategy.  Clients value her ability to distill complicated legal and financial issues into practical guidance, allowing them to make confident, informed decisions during some of life’s most difficult transitions.

Before her time in family law, Cathy represented clients in complex business litigation, employment law, criminal defense, and medical malpractice matters, providing her with extensive courtroom experience.  Cathy also possesses comprehensive experience analyzing financial statements and addressing disputes involving ownership, income, and valuation—critical issues in family law, particularly high-asset divorce.  

Her years as a family lawyer and her hands-on familiarity with business litigation have endowed Cathy with a practical, sophisticated perspective that is especially valuable in divorce matters involving business ownership, gig-economy entrepreneurship, and financial complexity.

Cathy earned her Juris Doctorate from Tulane Law School, where she served as Managing Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Review and externed for Judge Steven R. Plotkin. She is admitted to practice in Georgia and Louisiana and remains active in the Georgia Bar Association’s Family Law Section.  As an undergraduate, she earned a B.A. with honors from the University of Pennsylvania.  In addition to her legal career, Cathy has been deeply involved in the Atlanta community, including leadership roles with the Atlanta Opera Ball and the Atlanta Junior League.

Cathy is married with three adult children. She is an avid dressage rider and German shepherd enthusiast.
